This is one of the highlights of early summer. As tradition dictates, the summer sales will begin on the last Wednesday of June. For this year 2023, it is therefore on Wednesday June 28, at 8 a.m., that the summer sales will kick off and they will end on Tuesday July 25 inclusive.

As recalled byarticle L. 310-3 of the Commercial Code, the sales take place during two periods of a minimum duration of three weeks and a maximum duration of six weeks each, the dates and times of the start and end of which are set by order of the Minister responsible for the economy . Since 2020, they have lasted four weeks in order to “concentrate price reductions over a shorter period of time and strengthen their impact”, indicates Bercy.

Be careful, however, because this decree may provide for different dates for these two periods in certain departments, in order to take into account a strong seasonality of sales or commercial operations carried out in border regions.

In some metropolitan departments as well as in overseas departments and communities, the dates for doing good business are different. Here they are :

Corsica (2A and 2B) from Wednesday July 12 to Tuesday August 8Guadeloupe (971) from September 30 to October 28Martinique (972) from October 5 to November 1Reunion (974) from February 4 to Friday March 3Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon ( 975) from July 19 to Tuesday August 15Saint-Barthélemy (977) from October 14 to November 10Saint-Martin (978) from October 14 to November 10

Regarding online sales, the Ministry of the Economy recalls that they align with the national dates of stores, regardless of the location of the company’s headquarters. Like stores, sites must display the distinction between sale items and those that are not, as well as explicitly indicate the reductions offered in relation to a reference price.

As a reminder, the two sales periods that take place during the year are the only ones during which traders have the right to sell at a loss.
