New “Superman” movie is coming – but without Henry Cavill
Surprising twist: “My time to wear the cape is up,” writes actor Henry Cavill to his fans. Actually, the 39-year-old Briton was supposed to play “Superman” again. Now there is speculation as to what might be behind it.
FFilmmaker James Gunn (“Suicide Squad”) is writing a new “Superman” movie – but British actor Henry Cavill, 39, will not be donning the superhero cape again in it. “In the early stages, our story will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn shared on Twitter with.
Cavill, in turn, wrote in an Instagram post that the decision made him sad, but that he respected it. “My time to wear the cloak is up.”
Cavill only announced to his fans in October that he would slip into the superhero costume again. His cameo appearance as Superman in the film Black Adam, which was released in theaters in October, was “just a little taste”. Precisely because the DC studio asked him to make this announcement in October, the latest decision is “not the easiest” for him, says Cavill. “But that’s life.”
Who will be the next James Bond?
There is already speculation on the Internet as to whether there might be more behind the decision. Cavill has long been traded as a potential successor to Daniel Craig as Agent 007 or James Bond. On Twitter, many fans were also outspoken open minded for such a cast. Others, however, regretted that Cavill will no longer be seen as “Superman”.
Cavill first played the DC hero in 2013’s Man of Steel. He also starred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).
