Suspected doping: British silver medal winner suspended

by time news

ParisThe British sprinter Chijindu Ujah has been suspended for suspected doping after his silver medal success with the 4×100 m relay at the Tokyo Olympics. This was announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of the World Athletics Association.

The German relay came in sixth

According to the AIU, the 27-year-old was said to have “the presence / use of the prohibited substances ostarine and S-23”, “which are selective androgen receptor modulators (SARM)”. The substances are often used to build muscle.

If the case is confirmed, Ujah’s team would have to give up the silver medal. When the Italians won, the British quartet finished second ahead of Canada, while China came fourth. The German relay crossed the finish line in sixth place.

Three athletes have been temporarily suspended so far

Before Ujah, Bahrain’s 1,500 m runner Sadik Mikhou, the Georgian shot putter Benik Abramyan and the Kenyan sprinter Mark Otieno Odhiambo had been suspended for suspected doping after their Olympic starts.

The AIU is now waiting “for the conclusion of the procedure by the International Test Authority (ITA)” against the athletes concerned, the message said. This should determine “whether anti-doping rule violations have been committed and what consequences (if any) should be imposed in relation to the Olympic Games”.
