Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, facing a chaotic situation as the injured overwhelmed local medical facilities. According to a regional councilor, the intensive care unit and operating theater at the regional hospital quickly reached full capacity. “This evening should have been a moment of celebration and coming together, but it turned into a nightmare,” stated the head of the regional government. Helicopters and ambulances were deployed to transport victims, including international visitors, to receive critical care.
The Valais Canton police commander, Frédéric Gisler, expressed the devastation felt by authorities. “We are devastated,” he said during a news conference.
