Baghdad – IA
On Wednesday, Switzerland elected a former police chief as the country’s new public prosecutor, more than a year after his predecessor was ousted in the wake of the corruption scandal that struck the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Former Attorney General Michael Lauber resigned from his position in June 2019 as part of an investigation into suspicions of collusion with FIFA and graft, and the emergence of evidence that he held secret meetings with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in 2016 and 2017.
Since then, the position has remained vacant because a parliamentary committee was unable to find an alternative candidate.
On Thursday, the Swiss Federal Parliament elected Stefan Blattler (62 years old), a former Bern police chief, to succeed Uber.
After a year-long search and Parliament raising the retirement age for an additional three years to 68 years in office, Platler, who holds a doctorate in law from the University of Neuchâtel, was the only candidate.
