Switzerland has not directly agreed to the Ukrainian Prime Minister’s request to use the assets of wealthy Russians, which have been frozen following the invasion of Ukraine, to rebuild Ukraine.
It is estimated that $750 billion will be needed to rebuild Ukraine, which has been hit hard by the Russian invasion.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmygal, has demanded that the work be done using frozen assets of wealthy Russians.
But Switzerland did not directly agree to his request!
Switzerland has frozen assets worth 6.3 billion Swiss francs of wealthy Russians and has refused to hand them over to Ukraine intact. Speaking about this, Swiss President Ignazio Cassis said that according to the rules of most republics, we can freeze assets to get an explanation of where they came from.
But questions about their relationship to the war in Ukraine, and the scale of the measures to be taken, also need to be considered, he said.
