Tabuena Makes History as First Filipino to Secure Full LIV Golf Status
A groundbreaking moment for Philippine golf: Miguel Tabuena has become the first player from the Philippines to earn full-time status on the LIV Golf League roster for the 2026 season, a testament to his impressive performance within The International Series.
Tabuena’s ascent to the LIV Golf League marks a significant milestone, not only for his career but also for the growing presence of Asian talent on the global stage. The 31-year-old will begin competing as a Wild Card this week at LIV Golf Adelaide, taking place at The Grange Golf Club from February 12–15.
A Breakthrough Victory in the Philippines
The turning point in Tabuena’s journey came with a decisive victory at the International Series Philippines presented by BingoPlus last October. This win propelled him to a third-place finish in the season Rankings, solidifying his position as a rising star. He recently made a successful debut as a substitute for 4Aces GC in Riyadh, further demonstrating his capabilities and paving the way for his full-time inclusion in the league.
“This is really huge for me,” Tabuena stated. “My goal last year was to win an International Series event, and I did it. That win opened up so many opportunities, including playing bigger events like the Saudi International, and it also gave me a real chance to push for promotion.”
The International Series: A Proven Pathway
Tabuena emphasized the crucial role of The International Series in providing a clear pathway to the LIV Golf League. He acknowledged that while an automatic spot wasn’t immediately secured, consistent strong performances throughout the season caught the attention of the LIV Golf team.
“This opportunity also proves that The International Series is a real pathway to LIV Golf,” he explained. “I didn’t earn the automatic spot straight away, but I played well across the season, and the LIV team saw that. It shows that if you compete on the Asian Tour and perform in The International Series, doors can open, even for players coming through Q School.”
Expanding Asian Representation on the LIV Golf League
The four-time Asian Tour winner will join a growing contingent of International Series and Asian Tour performers who have secured full-time LIV Golf cards for 2026. This group includes Scott Vincent, Yosuke Asaji, Richard Lee, and Björn Hellgren, signaling a broader trend of increased international representation within the league. This influx of talent promises to elevate the competitive landscape of the LIV Golf League and further solidify its position as a major force in professional golf.
