Taiwan’s military recorded 24 aircraft and 8 ships of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) approaching the island.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this is stated in a message from the island’s defense department posted on X (formerly Twitter).

It is alleged that 11 aircraft crossed the so-called median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered the island’s air defense zone. “Taiwan’s armed forces have been monitoring the situation and have deployed appropriate forces to respond,” the defense ministry said in a statement.

Taiwan’s air defense identification zone was unilaterally declared an island; its area reaches 492 thousand square meters. km and significantly exceeds the airspace of the island. It also captures the waters around it, the Taiwan Strait and part of the airspace over mainland China’s eastern provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi and Zhejiang.

The PLA regularly sends its ships and aircraft to the Taiwan area amid worsening relations between the two sides of the strait after the visit of then Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taipei on August 2-3, 2022. The PRC considers such visits to be provocations, interference in China’s internal affairs and support for Taiwanese separatists.

China’s largest island, Taiwan, has been governed by its own administration since 1949, but in Beijing it is considered an integral part of a single country. Washington remains Taipei’s main supplier of weapons and military equipment.
