The National Ministry of Defense of taiwan has detected this Saturday morning twelve fighters and four warships of the Chinese Army near the island. “One of the planes has been detected in the southeast of the air defense perimeter,” the Ministry confirmed on its Twitter account, and announced the deployment of combat aircraft, Navy ships and has activated ground-based missile launch systems in response.
The escalation of tensions in the region began with the trip to the island of the then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, in August of last year, although they have rebounded after the meeting between Tsai and McCarthy.
Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the territory under its sovereignty.
