Washington D.C.: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said that the US cannot allow the new norms that China is trying to build by conducting provocative military exercises and deploying warplanes in the Taiwan Strait. Following Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the region is going through a tense situation. China strongly condemned the visit.
China on Wednesday said it had successfully completed the first phase of a week-long military exercise surrounding Taiwan. China has also stated that it will continue military patrols in the region.
China has deployed hundreds of warplanes, warships, aircraft carriers and nuclear-powered submarines for military training. This is seen as a message for the US to intervene in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi said she did not visit Taiwan to talk about China. The visit was part of friendship with Taiwan. Pelosi said that China cannot isolate Taiwan.
