Morocco & Mauritania Strengthen Ties Through Parliamentary & Economic Collaboration

Morocco and Mauritania are deepening their bilateral relations through high-level discussions focused on economic integration and South-South cooperation. The meetings, held in Rabat, underscore a commitment to strengthening ancient bonds and fostering progress across the African continent.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, received the Minister of Justice of the Islamic republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Soueidatt, and a delegation on Monday, October 21, 2024, for a working visit concluding October 22. The meeting, also attended by the Mauritanian ambassador to Morocco, Ahmed Ould bahia, served as a platform to reaffirm the longstanding ties between the two nations.
Reaffirming Historical and Cooperative Bonds
Discussions centered on the “depth of the historical and spiritual ties uniting the two countries,” according to a statement released following the meeting. Officials emphasized the “solidity of the cooperative relations” already in place, signaling a desire to build upon existing frameworks.
A key focus of the talks involved reviewing major development projects undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco and the broader African initiatives championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. These initiatives are specifically designed to bolster South-South cooperation and contribute to the overall development of the African continent.
Parliamentary Forum Drives Economic Integration
The quality of parliamentary relations between Morocco and Mauritania was also prominently featured. The recent inaugural session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Parliamentary Economic forum, held in Nouakchott, was highlighted as a important step forward.
“This forum constitutes an essential lever to encourage investment and consolidate bilateral economic integration,” a senior official stated.the forum is envisioned as a “privileged framework for dialog and parliamentary consultation,” fostering the exchange of experiences,expertise,and coordinated action between the two legislative bodies – both domestically and on the international stage.
