Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held bilateral talks on ending the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli attack on Gaza on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2024.

The meeting was held at Hotel Beirischer Hof in Munich, Germany on Saturday afternoon (February 17) local time.

After the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Hasan Mahmud said in a press briefing, “There was a detailed discussion between the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of Germany about ending the war, especially the Russia-Ukraine war and stopping the attack on Gaza.”

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of Germany agreed that ‘none of the parties will benefit from war’.

Chancellor of Germany quoted Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, ‘The only way to establish peace is to stop war.’

The Prime Minister urged the German Chancellor to invest in Bangladesh in various sectors, especially in the information technology sector.

Referring to the establishment of 100 economic zones in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Germany can invest in Bangladesh.’

The Prime Minister invited the German Chancellor to visit Bangladesh and he accepted the invitation. At this time, Sheikh Hasina recalled the contribution of Germany in the reconstruction of independent Bangladesh after the war of liberation.

Besides the European Union (EU) member countries, Germany is the highest exporting country from Bangladesh. The two leaders also discussed the issue of exporting more Bangladeshi products to Germany. They also talked about sending skilled Bangladeshi manpower to Germany.

After a long time, Olaf Schultz congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fifth and fourth consecutive time in a bilateral meeting held in a very sincere atmosphere.

Earlier in the morning, Germany’s Federal Economic Cooperation and Development Minister met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the conference venue.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud bin Momen and the ambassador to Germany. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and others were present at this time.
