In the course of the negotiations, the number of laid-off employees will be specified, and it is expected that it will be less than initially announced, “Tallink” informed.

In Estonia, the collective dismissal mainly affects ship service personnel, while in Latvia – both service and technical personnel.

The employees will be made redundant as the company optimizes its maritime workforce in both countries in relation to long-term charters for the Isabelle and Star vessels. The ferries will be leased without a crew for several years, as well as other ships of the company have been leased for a long time, so “Tallink” will not be able to provide employees with adequate workload in the near future.

Pāvo Negene, chairman of the board of “Tallink Grupp”, informed that the company tries to offer crew members work on leased ships or other ferries of the company, however, leasing ships abroad means that not everyone has the opportunity to take advantage of such an offer.

In the second half of last year, “Tallink Grupp” carried out a similar process in its subsidiary “Tallink Silja” in Sweden, because the regular flights between Turku and Stockholm with the passenger ferry “Galaxy”, which is now leased, were stopped.

The collective bargaining agreement termination process began this week and will be completed in early fall. “Tallink Grupp” has also started reducing the number of employees to a lesser extent in the company “Laevatenindus”, where the technical staff of Estonian-flagged ships work.

“Tallink Grupp” carries out transportation by ferries in the Baltic Sea using the brands “Tallink” and “Silja Line”. The company is also the operator of three hotels in Tallinn and one in Riga. The company’s shares are listed on the official list of the Tallinn Stock Exchange. The largest shareholder of “Tallink Grupp” is the Estonian investment company “Infortar”, which owns 40% of the shares of “Tallink Grupp”.
