The budget has allocated Rs. 33,77 crore for various projects in agriculture and various announcements such as special incentives for sugarcane farmers and crop insurance.

Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam presented the Agriculture Finance Report in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Of this, 25 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured last year.

It has been announced that nine lakh farmers will benefit from the crop insurance scheme in the year 2020-21 and the State Government will contribute Rs. 2,339 crore to the scheme in the coming year.

The state government will provide an incentive of Rs 195 per tonne for sugarcane.

5 thousand 157 crore has been allocated to provide free electricity to farmers. An industrial park for agricultural products is to be set up in Thiruvarur district to ensure fair prices for produce.

It has been announced that 10 new farmers’ markets will be set up at a cost of 10 crore rupees and vegetables and cereals will be sold in the morning and in the evening.

Five crore rupees will be allocated for the protection of inland fisheries such as ayurveda, carp and kalpasu. Indigenous fish breeders are to be trained to grow the country’s fish species, including fingerlings.
