Tamil Nadu Congress Announces Candidates for 2019 Elections Under Selvaperunthagai Leadership

by time news

Chennai: The All India Congress has formed a state election committee under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Congress president Selvaperunthagai to carry out candidate selection and campaign work in Tamil Nadu.

Selvaperundagai went to Delhi on March 20 with a list of proposed candidates for 9 Lok Sabha constituencies and one Legislative Assembly constituency with 3 candidates per constituency. After a long delay, the list of Tamil Nadu Congress candidates was published last night. That too, candidates were announced only for 7 out of 9 constituencies.

Accordingly, former IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil for Tiruvallur constituency, former MLA K. Gopinath for Krishnagiri, Jyotimani for Karur, Vishnu Prasad for Cuddalore, Karthi Chidambaram for Sivagangai, Manickam Tagore for Virudhunagar and Vijay Vasanth for Kanyakumari have been announced as candidates. 5 of them have been given another chance.

Candidates for 2 more Lok Sabha constituencies and Vilavankode Assembly constituency are yet to be declared. In this regard, some of the party executives said that: This time in DMK and AIADMK, a lot of opportunities have been given to newcomers.

But those who are given a chance in Congress are given a chance again and again. Since 1967 till today, only one family has been given an opportunity.

The All India leadership did not see it through many times insisting that the successors should not be given another chance. Due to lack of knowledge of the field situation in Tamil Nadu, appointment of senior observers who do not know the political and social environment of Tamil Nadu, all India leadership not paying attention to the opinions of Tamil Nadu leaders, and believing in some thesis, the party is unable to choose candidates in time. Thus they said.
