Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister on Plans for Creating a Gigantic Lake in Chennai’s Ramanjeri-Thirutandalam Area

by time news

Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan recently visited the Puzhal lake in Chennai, after reports of a break in the lateral retaining wall surfaced. Duraimurugan assured the public that the situation was not as dire as it seemed and that the government was managing the water level of the lake in a proper manner to ensure safety.

He also mentioned that plans for constructing new barrages in the outskirts of Chennai were underway, with two possible locations at Kandikai and Ramancheri-Thiruthandalam. However, the minister emphasized that the construction of a new barrage at Ramancheri-Thiruthandalam would only proceed if the local residents agreed to it.

Earlier, during an inspection of the Chembarambakkam lake, the minister had indicated that the construction of a very large lake, possibly one of the biggest in Tamil Nadu, was contingent upon the approval of the people in the Ramancheri-Thiruthandalam area.

It is clear from the minister’s statements that the government is taking measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the people, and it is appealing to the local residents for their cooperation in the decision-making process regarding the construction of new barrages and lakes in the region.
