The investigation into the accident at the Tanjore Kalimedu Chariot Festival began today. Kumar Jayant, the Revenue Secretary of the Commission, visited the site of the accident and inspected it. There is a temple for the Upper Monastery in the village of Kalimedu in Thanjavur district. The annual Chithrai Festival is held here on Satya Nakshatra Day, the birth anniversary of the Upper Star. Accordingly, the festival has started on the morning of the 26th. The main event of the festival was the election. The wheel of the chariot descended into a nearby ditch while pulling the toad on the curve of the road to get to the Upper Monastery. The high voltage wire has gone over the area where the chariot stopped.
As the chariot tilted, its upper bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets. Eleven people were killed when electricity was cut off. Many more were seriously injured. Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences after meeting the families of the victims of the accident. He also met the injured and expressed his condolences. Later, the Chief Minister also provided financial assistance. The Tamil Nadu government later set up a one-person commission to investigate the accident. Kumar Jayant, the revenue secretary of the commission, visited the Kalimedu area where the accident took place today and inspected it. He later told reporters that an inquiry into the accident would be held at the Tanjore District Collector’s Office tomorrow. He said the public can come in person and participate in the investigation. Meanwhile, a consultation meeting with the Thanjavur District Collector’s Office began after an inquiry into the scene of the Kalimedu chariot accident. Kumar Jayant, chairman of the One-Man Inquiry Commission, consulted with the persons concerned.
