Tanzanian Orphanage Sends Heartfelt Support to Donegal Gaelic Football Team
A moving display of international solidarity has emerged as an orphanage in Tanzania rallies behind the Donegal Gaelic football team ahead of their All-Ireland final clash against Kerry this Sunday. The children of the Rafiki Sana Foundation expressed their support with a spirited rendition of the iconic anthem, “Jimmy’s Winning Matches.”
The outpouring of encouragement stems from a recent volunteer program that connected five Irish teachers with the Rafiki orphanage, pre-school, and primary school earlier this month. The teachers, three of whom are originally from Donegal, introduced the children to the fundamentals of Gaelic Football alongside the beloved team song.
The initiative wasn’t solely focused on cultural exchange. The Irish educators successfully raised over €10,000 for the Rafiki Sana Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2017. These funds have been directly invested in improving the lives of the children and families the foundation serves.
Specifically, the money facilitated the construction of a new classroom and two essential toilet cubicles within the primary school. Additionally, two preschool classrooms received much-needed paint and decorative upgrades, and the foundation was able to provide food for 30 local families for an entire month.
The Rafiki Sana Foundation provides vital support to vulnerable children in Tanzania, operating a free orphanage, pre-school, primary school, and hostel facilities for those living in difficult circumstances. The organization’s sustainability relies heavily on sponsorship, donations, and the dedication of volunteers.

This unique connection highlights the power of sport to transcend geographical boundaries and foster a sense of community on a global scale. The children’s enthusiastic support serves as a powerful morale boost for the Donegal team as they prepare for their championship final.
