Sports Journalist Christina Chambers and Husband Found Dead in Alabama

A tragic incident has left the Alabama community reeling after the discovery of sports presenter Christina Chambers and her husband, Johny Rimes, deceased at their Hoover home on Tuesday, December 16. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths, confirming there is currently no threat to the public.

A Morning That Turned Tragic

The Hoover Police Department responded to a welfare check at the couple’s residence at 9:03 a.m. following a concerning call. The investigation revealed that Johny Rimes’ father discovered the bodies after the couple failed to arrive at a scheduled church event. According to reports, the couple’s three-year-old son opened the door for his grandfather, leading to the heartbreaking discovery.

Firefighters and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene, but were unable to revive either Chambers or Rimes. Both were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds, police confirmed.

A Beloved Figure in Alabama Sports

Christina Chambers had been a prominent figure in Alabama sports broadcasting since 2015, working with WBRC network. While she transitioned to corporate communications in 2021, she continued to return during football seasons to cover sporting events. She gained significant recognition for her coverage of the Mercedes Marathon, notably participating as a runner herself.

Chambers’ athletic background was well-established, having excelled at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on a sports scholarship. A colleague at WBRC, Jeh Jeh Pruit, shared heartfelt sentiments, stating, “She was one of the sweetest, most loving people I know. She was tireless in athletics, in her love for her son and in her love of life. I’m glad I had the opportunity to hug her and tell her I loved her a week ago. I’m deeply sorry for her family, the Chambers and Thompson families, and for her family at WBRC.”

Expanding Broadcast Career

Beyond her work with WBRC 6 News, Chambers contributed to the Waka sports program in Montgomery, Alabama, and held positions at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, and Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) in Atlanta. Her dedication to journalism was further recognized with the Advisor of the Year award from the Press Association Alabama Scholasticism in 2024, and THS secured the Alex House Award for Journalistic Sustainability in 2025 due to her contributions.

Neighbor’s Account and Ongoing Investigation

A neighbor, Charles Maple, spoke to People magazine, describing the unsettling scene. “The boy opened the door. And then they went back into the house and found the bodies. It’s heartbreaking,” he said. Maple noted that the couple appeared to be happy and loving parents, yet admitted to a strange sense of premonition upon seeing police at the residence. “I was very surprised, but for some reason, I don’t know why, I wasn’t surprised at all,” he stated.

The investigation remains active, with authorities assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat. The loss of Christina Chambers and Johny Rimes has deeply impacted the community, leaving behind a grieving three-year-old son and a legacy of dedication to sports and journalism.
