Interview Between Time.news Editor and Tatiana Calmell
Time.news Editor (TNE): Welcome, Tatiana Calmell, and thank you for joining us today. As the current Miss Peru and representative for Miss Universe 2024, you’ve taken a bold step by unveiling your social program ‘Amarte.’ Can you tell us more about its mission?
Tatiana Calmell (TC): Thank you for having me! Yes, ‘Amarte’ is a project born from my personal experience with sexual harassment. It aims to empower young girls by providing them with psychological tools to speak out against any form of violence they might face, helping them realize they are not alone and encouraging them to raise their voices.
TNE: It’s incredibly courageous of you to share your own experiences. Could you elaborate on your journey that inspired ‘Amarte’?
TC: Absolutely. When I was 18, I faced harassment during my early career in modeling. It was a confusing and isolating time, but it pushed me to raise my voice—not just for myself but for all the women who felt they had to remain silent. ‘Amarte’ was created to inspire and equip girls with the courage to express their feelings and experiences, reinforcing that their voices matter.
TNE: How do you plan to implement this program, particularly in terms of reaching young girls?
TC: ‘Amarte’ consists of workshops and seminars that involve professional psychologists who specialize in trauma and empowerment. We’re partnering with schools to ensure that we reach girls at a young age, fostering a safe environment where they can discuss their feelings and experiences openly. The goal is to create dialogue and educate young girls on recognizing and reporting harassment, so it becomes a collective effort to combat these issues.
TNE: What impact do you hope ‘Amarte’ will have on the community and society at large?
TC: I hope ‘Amarte’ will break the stigma surrounding sexual violence and encourage a culture of openness and support. By empowering girls to speak up, we can work towards a society where harassment is no longer tolerated and victims feel safe and supported when they come forward. It’s about creating a community that stands united against violence and fosters understanding.
TNE: As a model and now an advocate, how do you see your role evolving in the public eye?
TC: I believe that being a public figure comes with the responsibility to use my platform for good. Through ‘Amarte’, I want to advocate for women’s rights and mental health awareness. I hope to inspire others to join this movement and take an active role in advocating for change—because every voice matters, and together we can make a difference.
TNE: Powerful words, Tatiana. Lastly, what message would you like to share with young girls who may be facing harassment or feeling unheard?
TC: I want every girl to know that they are not alone and that their experiences are valid. It’s okay to speak up and seek help. Your voice is powerful, and you deserve to be heard. Join us at ‘Amarte’ and let’s create a supportive community together. Remember, silence is not an option—your courage can inspire change.
TNE: Thank you, Tatiana, for sharing your incredible journey and insights with us. We look forward to seeing the impact of ’Amarte’ on the lives of many young girls.
TC: Thank you for having me! Together, we can make a significant difference.
