Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue, gently debunking the host’s claim that she acts as her literal therapist
before returning later in the evening to present a birthday cake as Johnson turned 37.
Dakota Johnson Jokes About Dating Musicians on Saturday Night Live
Hosting Saturday Night Live for the third time, Dakota Johnson stepped onto the stage to promote her new psychosexual erotic thriller, Verity. Wearing a tight latex dress, the actor quickly turned her opening remarks toward her romantic history, reflecting on what she described as two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians
since her previous hosting stint in January 2024.
Her dating roster over the years includes relationships with Noah Gersh from 2007 to 2010, Drowners frontman Mathew Hitt from 2014 to 2016, and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin from 2017 until 2025, followed by a brief relationship with Role Model that ended in 2026. More recently, she has been linked to Machine Gun Kelly.
Some of them don’t wear shoes, some of them are terrible in bed, but all of them are in my DMs,
Johnson told the audience. Not my fault, though. Some people leave concerts with merch, and I leave concerts with a two-and-a-half-year relationship.
She joked that she viewed her romantic pursuits as a public service, suggesting she was saving the women of America, England, parts of Ireland, and Cleveland money on Zoloft. That last geographic nod drew an immediate reaction from the crowd and set up a surprise appearance.
Taylor Swift Counters the Literal Therapist Claim Onstage
Taylor Swift walked onto the stage to massive cheers from the crowd, fulfilling weeks of fan speculation sparked by a hidden prop in an earlier Emmys sketch as Johnson began praising the friends who supported her through those splits without judgment. Johnson immediately introduced the pop star to the audience.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist.”

Swift, however, stepped up to the microphone to dispute the characterization immediately, offering a distinctly different version of their weekly get-togethers.
“I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.”

The banter continued as Swift detailed the routine of their wine sessions, explaining that Johnson typically flops on the couch to overshare while Swift offers minimal commentary. Every so often I just say,
Swift said. When Swift eventually suggests it is getting late, Johnson responds with a plea for a sleepover, prompting Swift to hand over a Pedialyte and dispatch her security team to drive the actor home.Damn, that’s crazy,
Music Video Premiere Precedes Surprise Cameo
Johnson stars alongside Colin Farrell in Swift’s self-directed music video for the single Patient Zero, which premiered at the MTV Video Music Awards where Johnson presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Award.
To pull off the surprise for viewers, the show faked out the cameo during the afternoon dress rehearsal by having cast member Sarah Sherman stand in for Swift during the monologue.
The episode also featured musical guest Turnstile. Other sketches touched on midterm campaign strategists, along with segments featuring Marco Rubio, Mitch McConnell, and J.D. Vance.

Swift Celebrates Johnson Birthday Before Next Show Lineup
Swift returned to the stage carrying a blue-and-white birthday cake to celebrate Johnson turning 37 on Sunday as the broadcast drew to a close during the goodnights.
Saturday Night Live returns next week with host Shane Gillis and musical guest Rosalía, following Johnson’s third time hosting since her initial appearance in January 2024.
