All industrial companies are hunting for increasingly scarce talent. The profile of the new worker is that of one capable of developing transversal skills, not only in his or her specific area of work. But other values, such as teamwork and honesty, are also rising.
Despite having common needs, a multinational company does not seek or achieve the same things as another small one. Not one of a technological nature compared to another in the bio-health industry. The three companies participating in the second round table of the employment day organized by EL CORREO, entitled ‘Professional skills for a new industrial model’, correspond to these profiles.
The speakers were Iñaki Corral, CEO of Sercontrol (consulting and environmental studies company), Iratxe Urraca, Director of Research and Development of the Smart Grids division of Ormazabal; and Carlos Gutiérrez, director of Human Resources at Faes Farma.
One of the great challenges for a company like Sercontrol is “the transformation of people’s knowledge, as tasks become more technical.” Also something more abstract: “we must all have a company culture that we instill in the people who come.”
Ormazabal, a multinational with a presence in 14 countries, needs to incorporate different profiles. This transversality focuses, however, mainly on “digitalization and sustainability.” Beyond that, the Biscayan company places emphasis “not only on individual skills and talent, but also on that of the team.”
A “weirdo” in the industry
Faes Farma does not need, “fortunately,” to ‘hunt’ for engineers. As a pharmacist, “we are a weirdo in the Basque industry,” says its human resources director, Carlos Gutiérrez. One of his greatest challenges is to train workers “for a fully robotic environment” like that of the plant they recently opened.
Another is to recruit workers who not only have knowledge and skills. “For us, ethics and values are very important, such as honesty and sincerity.”
