Nintendo today released a 10-minute gameplay video that gives an extended look at Tears of the Kingdom, a new game in the Zelda series. The video shows the new islands, new enemies, abilities and various mechanics.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the biggest games to be released this year for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo’s hybrid console, and so far the company has not extensively revealed the game that is a direct sequel to the successful Breath of the Wild. As you can learn from the video, you can also explore the slightly changed open world of the Hyrule Kingdom, to which floating islands called ‘Sky Islads’ have been added, which the player can explore and discover a new type of enemies called Constructs.

As in the previous game that made use of the mechanics of physics and time, here too a new ability was added that allows Link to turn back time, and in the video you can see how you can reach one of the islands in the sky by riding on a rock that fell from one of the islands by turning back time. In addition, the new ability to unite objects was also shown and thus create stronger objects such as a stick with a stone at the end that functions like a mace or connecting several tree trunks and fans together to create a floating spring that can be used by Link to cross a river, when all kinds of special vehicles can be created.

In addition to the climbing ability that was a central mechanic in the previous game, an ability called Ascend was also added. The new and interesting ability allows Link to hover and pass through the ceiling and thus easily climb through buildings or caves.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is expected to arrive in stores on May 12, along with a controller and a case designed for the game. And in addition on April 28, Nintendo will also offer for sale a special edition of the Switch OLED with a matching design.
