Kansas City might be gaining a new claim to fame: as the backdrop for the fourth season of Ted Lasso. The Apple TV+ hit is gearing up for its return, and Jason Sudeikis recently revealed a major plot twist—and filming location—for the upcoming episodes.
A New League, A New Challenge for Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso, the feel-good comedy that charmed audiences with its optimistic spirit, is set to return with a fresh storyline. The show, starring Sudeikis as an American football coach navigating the world of British soccer, is expected to welcome back much of its original cast, including Toheeb Jimoh as Nigerian footballer Sam Obisanya, alongside Hannah Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift.
What does Toheeb Jimoh want to see happen in season four? He jokingly suggested a funeral for his character, Sam, before quickly retracting the idea, and expressing his true desire: for Ted Lasso to finally win a trophy.
Jimoh, 28, shared his hopes for the season during a recent conversation with People magazine. While he briefly entertained a darkly humorous idea, his real wish is for Coach Lasso to experience the thrill of victory. “I want Ted to actually win something,” Jimoh said. “He’s like, ‘It’s not about the wins and losses.’ I’m like, ‘Win. Win a trophy, bro. Win a trophy.’”
The series concluded its initial three-season run in 2024, but fans received a welcome surprise the following year when Sudeikis announced a continuation of the story. The revival comes with a significant change: Ted will be coaching a women’s team.
“Ted’s coaching a women’s team,” Sudeikis teased during a 2025 appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
The first three seasons followed Ted’s journey from Kansas City to Richmond, U.K., where he took the helm of AFC Richmond. The season three finale saw Ted return to the United States to address personal matters, leaving Roy Kent (Goldstein) to step into an assistant coaching role alongside coach Beard (Hunt).
Filming for the fourth season is already underway, with the first episode being shot in Kansas City. An official season four logline reveals: “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
Throughout its run, Ted Lasso has garnered significant acclaim, receiving 61 Emmy nominations and winning 13 awards, including lead actor in a comedy series trophies for Sudeikis in 2021 and 2022. A release date for season four has not yet been announced.
