Iranian police have unleashed a crackdown on women and youth to control the riots.
A few days earlier, Iran’s president, Ibrahim Raisi, ordered stricter dress codes for women, including wearing the hijab at all times. Hamini’s death has intensified the question of the Iranian government’s repression of women.
