A 17-year-old American teenager, whose identity has not been revealed, died after trying to climb a bridge in Los Angeles last weekend.
According to the ABC7 newspaper, the local police stated that the motivation for the attempt to climb was an internet challenge. The boy was trying to record a video, clinging to one of the arches of the structure, when he slipped and fell.
The victim was hospitalized, but did not resist. The accident happened on the 6th Street Bridge, considered an area landmark, opened in 1932.
“Tragically, the site, while it has generated much pride in Los Angeles, has also served as the backdrop to several tragedies like this one,” Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore told the paper.
Moore recalled other similar cases involving risks, when the police had to close the bridge. Illegal races, graffiti, illicit trafficking and fatal incidents have been reported more than once at the site.
“Patrols will reinforce patrols to combat such reckless actions”, concluded the police chief in an interview with ABC7.
