Austrian Athlete Shatters Tobogganing Distance Record with 210-Kilometer Run

A determined athlete completed an astonishing 210-kilometer toboggan run in the Wildkogel Arena Neukirchen & Bramberg, Salzburg, on Friday, setting a new world record for distance covered on a toboggan.

Rolf Majcen, a resident of Teesdorf, Austria, embarked on the ambitious challenge at 7 a.m. local time, relentlessly navigating the seven-kilometer toboggan run a remarkable 30 times. The feat, completed by 6:40 p.m., was the culmination of a year-long aspiration to push the boundaries of endurance and tobogganing performance.

A Year in the Making

The idea for the record attempt first took root last year, as Majcen contemplated the physical and mental demands of extended tobogganing. “I asked myself what it would be like if I were tobogganing for twelve hours. How the body reacts to it, how you can do it, what it’s like when you’re on a toboggan for so long,” he explained. This introspection fueled his commitment to the challenge, driving him to meticulously plan and prepare for the grueling endeavor.

Unconventional Gear for a Record-Breaking Run

Majcen’s approach wasn’t limited to sheer endurance; he also opted for unconventional gear. He may have been the first tobogganer to complete such a distance wearing rubber boots with tread soles, a strategic choice to maintain dry feet throughout the entire run. “This keeps your feet dry from start to finish,” he noted, highlighting the importance of comfort and practicality during the extended period on the slope.

The athlete prioritized efficiency, stating, “I didn’t want to waste a second.” He utilized the gondola rides between runs to quickly change into warmer clothing as temperatures dropped and to refuel, maximizing his time on the toboggan.

A History of Tobogganing Achievements

This latest accomplishment builds upon Majcen’s already impressive record in the sport. He first experienced the thrill of tobogganing eight years ago and has since conquered 68 of the longest toboggan runs across Europe, spanning from Semmering to the Matterhorn.

Prior to this latest feat, Majcen demonstrated his penchant for record-breaking in 2023, when he descended twelve kilometers from the summit of the Marmolada, the highest mountain in the Dolomites, covering 1,815 meters of descent. Details of that record-setting run were previously reported by noe.ORF.at on December 17, 2025.

A Celebratory Finish

Upon completing the 210 kilometers around 6:40 p.m., Majcen was greeted with a spectacular fireworks display. “There couldn’t be anything more beautiful at that moment,” he shared, describing the overwhelming emotion of achieving his goal. “That was very moving,” he added.

The official certificate confirming the world record is expected to arrive at his home within approximately two months, and Majcen intends to display it prominently alongside his previous record certificate.
