Telegram’s latest Android update, version 12.4.0, is rolling out now via the Play Store and delivers a major redesign centered around a new “Liquid Glass” aesthetic.

The messaging app is embracing a more transparent look, borrowing heavily from Apple’s recent design language.

  • The update introduces a four-tab bottom bar reminiscent of iOS.
  • Transparent design elements are especially noticeable in light mode.
  • The traditional hamburger menu has been replaced with a three-dot overflow menu.
  • The redesign builds on earlier Liquid Glass implementations from October/November 2025.

Telegram first experimented with Liquid Glass effects on iOS in early January, and now Android users are getting the full treatment. The new interface features a bottom navigation bar with tabs for Chats, contacts, Settings, and Profile-a departure from the previous design and a clear nod to Apple’s interface. This bar remains visible even as you scroll.

The traditional side menu, accessible via a “hamburger” icon, has been removed.Options previously found there, such as “New Group,” are now located in a three-dot overflow menu in the upper-right corner of the chats screen.

User reactions to the new design have been mixed, with some expressing dissatisfaction on platforms like Reddit.
