Tirupur’: More than 40 employees of the Drinking Water Board CITU gathered and submitted a petition in the grievance meeting held at the Tirupur Collector’s office yesterday.

1,998 have been working as daily wage laborers in drinking water supply works. After introduction of contract system, they are working on contract basis. A case filed by a contract worker seeking permanent employment is pending in the High Court. In this case, drinking water supply contract workers are being fired from public jobs.
For last 11 months, salary is paid after 20th. Negotiating in the Executive Engineer’s office was of no use.
After sacking the contract workers, they are engaging new people who do not know the job in water supply. Due to this, people are suffering due to lack of drinking water. The Collector should intervene and order the reinstatement of the water supply workers.
