American basketball player Britney Greiner in her book “Coming Home” shared the terrible story of her almost year-long stay in a Russian prison. It all started when the 33-year-old athlete arrived in Russia to play for the UMMC Ekaterinburg club, but a week before the invasion of Ukraine began, she became a hostage of the Kremlin.

“Bild” writes about this.

Britney’s arrest took place at a Moscow airport when she was found to have a vape with hashish oil. She was later sentenced to nine years in prison. In the book, the athlete described the moments when she was transported in a narrow steel cage, where she had to sit sideways and draw her knees to her chest, which caused unbearable pain.

One of the worst experiences in prison was being in a cell where the mattress was stained, a hole in the floor served as a toilet, was stained with feces and smelled horribly. Britney had no opportunity to wash herself and was not even given a towel or soap. Her health was seriously damaged as she did not fit on the prison bed, and the dampness in her cell only aggravated her old sports injuries.

The basketball player admits that during this time she found solace in faith and the Bible, although before that she was not particularly devout. For her, thoughts of God became the only source of support and confidence in these dark times.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the Russian Federation announced retaliatory strikes in the event of an attack on Crimea. The Russian Federation emphasized that such attempts are doomed to failure and will be met with a blow of “retribution.”
