Archaeologists have discovered in Poland a strange burial of a small child with a lock on his leg. Writes about it Daily Mail.
The burial of the 17th century was found in the village of Pen. The child died at the age of 5-7 years. It was surprising that he was buried face down, and a padlock was attached to his leg, apparently so that he would not “rise from the dead”.
“Such practices were in folk beliefs, sometimes they were described as anti-vampire,” said Dariusz Polinsky, a member of the expedition, professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
He noted that the child was buried face down to “bite the ground and not harm the living”. It is noted that last year, near the burial of a child, the remains of a woman with the same lock on her leg were found. She had a sickle around her neck that would have cut the dead woman’s head if she had tried to “revolt.”
