Parisian police prefect Laurent Nunez, who is responsible for security in the Ile-de-France region, said that the terrorist threat “remains very significant” in France, linking it, in particular, with the conflict between Israel and Iran, Day.Az reports.

“Of course, we are afraid of the consequences of this conflict on national territory, just as there were the consequences of the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, when there was a strong increase in anti-Semitic acts,” he said on Sunday on BFMTV.

Nunez pointed to “the propaganda of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, which is very strong, which is spreading and which, of course, targets France.” According to him, such propaganda “may motivate a certain number of people to take action.”

Asked about the terrorist threat during the Paris Summer Olympics, the prefect noted that there is “no specific threat in relation to the Games,” that is, a “known threat” from “a group that would like to attack the Olympic Games” scheduled for July 26 – 11th August.

“This does not contradict the fact that we are in a context of heightened terrorist threat,” Nunez explained.
