Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the official visit to Thailand has ushered in a new era of fruitful partnership between the two countries. The visit will be a milestone in bilateral relations.

He said these things at a press conference on Thursday (May 2) at 11:30 a.m. at Ganabhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister, giving details of his visit to Thailand.

Sheikh Hasina said, Thailand is invited to invest in hi-tech parks including economic zones. I have called on the international community to speak out against all kinds of aggression and atrocities and say ‘no’ to war at UNSC.

He said, as an agricultural producing country, by increasing mutual cooperation in the agricultural sector, we can strengthen food security by utilizing Thailand’s experience and technical expertise. That is why we have discussed increasing our cooperation with Thailand. We discuss increasing cooperation in education and health sectors. Thailand is also called upon to invest in Bangladesh’s health sector.

The Prime Minister said that we hold constructive discussions to further develop the existing long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries. At this time, I seek the cooperation of Thailand as a valuable partner in transforming Bangladesh into a knowledge-based, digitalized and climate resilient country by 2041 and making Bangladesh a smart country.

The Prime Minister said, the review of free trade agreement with the aim of expanding trade and increasing import and export between the two countries was discussed as well as other matters of mutual interest. Among the important issues were – investment, people-to-people contacts, cultural exchange, tourism cooperation, energy security, agriculture and food security, health, land and sea connectivity, development cooperation and regional and international cooperation. At this time, I request the Thai Prime Minister to encourage private sector participation, especially investment in our Special Economic Zones and Hi-Tech Parks, to maintain the trade balance between the two countries.

Some government ministers and some senior leaders of the ruling Awami League were present at the press conference. The Prime Minister’s press conference was telecast live on state broadcaster.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home after a 6-day visit to Thailand at 11:30 a.m. on April 29. Earlier, the plane took off from the country’s Don Mueang International Airport at 10:10 a.m. local time in Thailand.

On the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to Bangkok on April 24 afternoon for a bilateral and multilateral visit to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He was given a warm red carpet welcome at Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand. There he was given a guard of honor and a song salute
