The cooperation between the Vatican and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is very significant, because thanks to this cooperation, the masterpieces and works of art of the Vatican are being restored.
Day.Az reports with reference to Trend that Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, told journalists about this.
“This is of great importance, as the Vatican is the heart of history and a storehouse of knowledge. I have high expectations from this cooperation,” – said the Secretary of State.
The Cardinal highlighted the successful cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Holy See. He noted the contribution made by the Foundation on the initiative of the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva in the restoration of a number of historical monuments of world importance in the Vatican.
Further, the Secretary of State noted that the main purpose of the visit is to promote peace in the region.
“This is the main mission of the Holy See – to contribute to peace wherever there is a need for it. We expressed to President Ilham Aliyev our readiness and the readiness of the Holy Father to make any possible contribution to establishing peace and security, as well as to achieving long-term peace between the two sides We believe that the best contribution that the Holy See can make is, first of all, humanitarian,” Parolin said.
He also noted the work that Azerbaijan is doing in its liberated territories.
“We call on everyone to avoid destruction and cooperate in the restoration of monuments. I hope that this can be done as soon as possible,” the cardinal added.
According to him, in its desire to promote intercultural dialogue, Azerbaijan will also ensure the rights and security of the Armenian minority living in Karabakh.
“Respect for minorities is a basic human right. Everyone should strive for this, as it is the basis of civilization and peace,” the cardinal stressed.
Parolin also said that during the meeting with the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, the parties identified a number of priority areas for future cooperation.
In this regard, it was also noted that the parties celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See last year.
“I think that the relations between our countries are very good and one of the proofs of this is the appointment of an Azerbaijani ambassador to the Vatican. This means that there are more reasons and opportunities for communication and cooperation. I think this is a very positive trend, and I am sure that we will continue in the same spirit, as always, working to promote common values,” the cardinal added.
According to him, intercultural dialogue is one of the characteristic features of Azerbaijan, as the country is strongly committed to creating a comfortable environment for the peaceful coexistence of different religions and cultures not only within the country, but also abroad.
In conclusion, the Secretary of State of the Holy See noted that he hopes for further fruitful cooperation with Azerbaijan.
“Despite different ways of thinking, we will always have common values that unite us,” Parolin concluded.
