That time Alon Mizrahi tried to have an intellectual discussion in prime time

The world of Israeli entertainment is full of great and historic moments: those that cannot be forgotten, those that make everyone ask “where were you when it happened” and those in which Tzipi Shavit came out disguised as an alien. But alongside those monumental moments, for better or for worse, there are also moments that everyone (especially those directly involved) would rather forget. This section is dedicated to these moments, Who approved it?.

what is here We return to 2006 – a year in which a number of sympathetic events took place such as Ariel Sharon’s stroke, a strange and unrelated election campaign and of course – a war in the summer. But with all due respect to these events, an equally tragic event took place on the Ego channel. Yes, it turns out that they once tried to produce content on this channel that was not related to cars or soft porn movies, and actually produced a talk show – “In the Living Room with the Aeron”, starring former soccer player Alon Mizrahi. Mizrahi was and remains a man blessed with talents – a gifted wide striker, who still holds the title of top scorer of all time in the Israeli league. One talent, what to do, he did not have – and that is to present a TV show. In the segment before us, he conducts a dialogue with the model Chen Sharig, which is intended to try and explode the myth surrounding footballers and models with the help of a so-called “high brow” dialogue – but in practice, only illustrates how much this is a recitation of a text that was written in advance and not some enlightenment that fell on them spontaneously (which also the text “intellectual” itself is completely meaningless), and it ends even more awkwardly than how it begins.

Why is this embarrassing? We have to be fair here – the program’s editor was Itay Segev, a particularly funny man who certainly brought an ironic/parodic (or at least self-aware) element to the program. Still, it’s hard not to ignore the fact that Mizrahi was at best the subject of a joke, and at best he simply didn’t know what to do in the studio. It is embarrassing because Mizrahi, someone who signed several contracts in his life, apparently did not really think deeply about this decision – which deepened (along with the series of books “Take it out of context”, which collected the best quotes from Israeli football) his image as a man who never missed an opportunity to “open the his mouth and dispel any doubt” regarding his wisdom and education. On the one hand, it’s a shame, on the other hand, it’s hard to say that anyone was hurt: the format is barely remembered, Mizrahi gently moved on to the next job, and the Israeli football rats (I am among them) enjoyed the soccer-Tokshouite answer to “De Rome” – it’s bad, but you can’t stop Watch.

what did we learn that the fact that you were a great footballer does not necessarily make you a television personality; that if you are offered a program on the Ego channel and you are not a Fiat Punto model 94, you should ask yourself some questions; And footballers may not really have “brains only in their legs”, but that doesn’t mean they will always make good career decisions.
