Berlin Impending gas shortage, low storage levels and record prices: 2022 was marked by the energy shock. There is currently no sign of this anymore. But homeowners, renters and businesses are wondering: How big will the bill be next winter?
The Handelsblatt spoke to energy experts about the gas supply situation. Most are confident. But nobody gives the all-clear without reservation.
“Compared to last year, the situation has eased,” says Gregor Pett, chief analyst at gas importer Uniper. The availability of pipeline gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) is high. But: “One must not ignore the uncertainties.”
Jörg Selbach-Röntgen, head of the energy trader MET Germany, sees it similarly. “Even a small imbalance in the system, such as an unforeseen infrastructure failure, can result in clearly noticeable price fluctuations,” he says.
