Analyzing the course of experimental hunting of whitefish for productive purposes, which started in 2020, highlighting its purpose, the Ministry of Environment is starting today to implement the 2nd phase of experimental hunting in 2021. RA Ministry of Environment informs about it.
According to the 2020 census data of the National Academy of Sciences, the total mass of whitefish in Lake Sevan was 2,345 tons, of which the total industrial stock was about 586.2 tons, of which a maximum quantity of 250 tons was set for use in 2021 within the framework of the 2nd phase of experimental whitefish hunting.
According to the order of “Productive experimental fishing of whitefish in Lake Sevana”,
the weight of the fish must be no less than 400 grams, the catch must be carried out with dnov nets with a mesh size of 40 mm or more,
at a distance of at least 500 m from the coast to exclude small fish, fishing will be carried out until September 1,
In the months of December-January, a strict control regime will be established to ensure the spawning process of the fish.
fishing vessels will enter and exit the lake from specially designated areas,
hunting will be organized according to the time schedule approved by the authorized body,
the inspector conducting control at the entry and exit points will fill in the data of the boat and fisherman that entered the lake on the given day in the appropriate log,
the time of entry and exit, will check the fishing equipment, after finishing the hunt will record the number of fish caught.
Those who wish to hunt whitefish for commercial purposes in Lake Sevan until “Sevan” National Park” SNOC and its branches can submit applications for signing a contract up to and including April 8.
The ministry also informs that these regulations have an important goal: to restore the ecosystem of Lake Sevan through the restoration of fish stocks, thereby preventing the activation of blue-green algae.
