The 46th Solothurn Literary Days open on Thursday evening. In total, 140 events are on its program until Sunday. Around seventy authors from Switzerland and elsewhere are traveling to the banks of the Aare.

A ceremony is planned for 6:00 p.m. to kick off. From Friday morning, the public will be able to come and attend, for three days, the various events organized in the capital of Solothurn.

Most of the writers invited to the Literary Days are German-speaking, but a dozen French-speaking authors are also there, including Elisa Shua Dusapin, Catherine Safonoff and Alain Freudiger. Ezra Sibyl Benisty, Matthieu Corpataux, Jérémie Gindre, Maxence Marchand, Lucia Masu, Léonie Pantillon, Catherine Safonoff, Joan Suris and Pierre-Alain Tâche are also present.

Swiss rapper and actress La Gale, from Lausanne, gives a spoken word concert on Friday. Some books presented in Solothurn echo the state of the world. Swiss authors Maxence Marchand, Lucia Masu and X Schneeberger outline three very distinct utopias and dystopias questioning climate, health, migration and our living together.

Literary prizes

The Solothurn Literary Days are also festive, notably with the presentation of three prizes. The Federal Office of Culture (OFC) will award the Swiss Book Prize for Children and Youth.

He will also award the Grand Prize for Swiss Literature to Aargau resident Klaus Merz as well as the Swiss Literature Prizes. The Solothurn Literary Prize will be awarded to Anne Weber, who writes in German and French.

Big news this year, most events last one hour, compared to 45 minutes until now. They are followed by a half-hour break, the managers wishing to give visitors more time. Last year, nearly 15,000 literature enthusiasts came to Solothurn.
