Another statement about the 7th grade textbook of the “Armenian History” subject, which received great criticism in public and professional circles, and the inadmissibility of its use has been published.
The only 7th grade textbook “History of Armenians” (author: Smbat Hovhannisyan) written in accordance with the New Public Education State Standards (SPS) and guaranteed by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (KMSS) was rejected by many Armenian academic institutions, historians, and pedagogues. and by public figures. According to many experts, the new textbook has serious content gaps and an anti-national approach. The author of the textbook tries to defend his work. It should be noted that Mr. Hovhannisyan is the only author of the book, with his wife as the editor, while in the civilized world such textbooks are published by a group of experts and co-authors. The said ministry has yet to take any practical action on the just complaint raised against this scandalous textbook endorsed or sponsored by the ministry, while the book is already in the hands of students and classes have begun.
Based on the above, HArmenian People’s Movement NGO representative Vazgen Petrosyan, Vahagn Chakhalyan representative of KAMK NGO, human rights activist Arman Mkhitaryan, Hakob Avetikyan, editor-in-chief of “AZG” daily, and Sevak Hakobyan, editor-in-chief of “ZARTONK” daily.the other day held a meeting to discuss measures to take appropriate steps to reject the “Armenian History” textbook of the 7th grade of the RA public school. The congregation decided to organize a round table next week, with the participation of relevant experts, with the intention of shedding more light on the problem. At the end of this public event, the program of further popular actions will be published. The date and place of the round table will be announced soon.
Those present at the meeting decided to keep the meeting open, inviting all colleagues concerned about this issue to join this initiative, until the RA KGMS does not stop the use of the mentioned textbook in the schools of our homeland and undertakes to reform its dangerous and anti-national content.
