This Thursday (14), the National Parliament overturned the veto of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the bill that establishes the thesis of the temporary framework for the demarcation of indigenous lands, starting from the promulgation of the Constitution.
Now, the text heads to Lula’s promulgation. If the president does not do so within 48 hours, the task falls to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD), and it becomes law. However, the most likely scenario is judicialization.
As anticipated Sheetthere was an agreement between the Government and the agro-industrial bench so that the repeal of the veto would be partial, maintaining three vetoes.
One of these vetoes referred to the fragment that gave the green light for contact with isolated towns to “provide medical assistance or to mediate a state action of public utility.”
In another controversial point vetoed by Lula, the proposal opened the possibility that the demarcated lands would be recovered by the Union.
The device that would allow the planting of GMOs in the territories also remained vetoed.
The Legislative Police reinforced security due to the demonstrations and even prevented the entry of the press.
