It is Orange Day and hundreds of institutions and artists join the initiatives to promote the cessation of violence against women and girls, but the day will have a special shine that will come from a classic of modern architecture: the Allianz Arena stadium. .

Just like last year the Allianz Arena will shine orange to send a signal against violence against women and girls, Futbol Club Bayern shows its support for the “ZONTA Says NO” initiative, which for more than 100 years has contributed to the struggles for a world without gender violence.

FC Bayern’s support is strengthened in this time of coronavirus and home quarantines, when it is more important than ever to raise awareness on this issue.

For approximately an hour and a half the Allianz Arena will glow orange until it turns red again for the Champions League match against FC Salzburg.

Not only the stadium will be illuminated in Germany, but also other buildings such as the Giant Ferris Wheel, the Residence Theater, the Chamber Theater, the House of Artists, the Documentation Center on the History of National Socialism, the House of Literature, the Gasteig cultural center, the BMW museum, the Technical University, as well as some ministries and a sign from the Munich city hall.

As shared by Hoda Tawfik, president of ZONTA-Clubs München City, a woman dies every three days in Germany due to violence by her romantic partner, and that, even worse, a worrying increase in cases of violence against women and girls has been reported during the pandemic.

“That has to stop! From all the ZONA-Clubs we want to start a global campaign, ZONTA Says NO/Orange The World that sends a signal of rejection against violence against women. With the color orange, we say no,” she said.

While Herber Hainer, president of FC Bayern, said that the international day for the abolition of violence against women is an annual reminder for everyone. “Gender violence is a taboo topic in our society. FC Bayern wants to send a signal of protection to all those women who cannot defend themselves in the necessary way. “We want to enter into this issue and raise awareness in a persistent way,” he argued.

This is what FC Bayern will do, through the bright orange that will illuminate the Allianz Arena, a stadium that has six thousand square meters of surface area for bars and shops, and with the largest parking lot in Europe with more than 10 thousand spaces.

Designed by architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, it is the first stadium that can completely change color due to its façade made up of 2,760 ETFE (Ethylene-Tetra Fluoro Ethylene) metal panels.

Thus, the rhombus-shaped pneumatic panels, which cover an area of 66,500 square meters, turn red when Bayern Munich plays at home, blue when Munich 1860 plays, and white for German national team matches.

For this reason, it is not surprising that the luxurious stadium has become the most beloved in Germany and that, in turn, it has managed to enter the top 10 of the most important national monuments a few years after its inauguration.
