Por Harry Potter fans, it’s a hell of a stroke of old: Daniel Radcliffe, the generational icon who rocked their adolescence, is about to become a father… Information confirmed on Saturday March 25 by a close friend of the actor to the American site People, which specifies that his long-time companion, Erin Darke (38 years old) is pregnant.

Radcliffe has shared the life of the American actress for several years now. They met in 2013 while filming the movie Kill Your Darlings. Since then, they have not left each other and maintain a very discreet relationship, far from the paparazzi, whom they flee like the plague.

Last October, he specified, in the magazine Newsweek, that he wanted children, but that he did not wish them to know one day “glory”. “Film sets are wonderful places, and I think that’s wonderful most of the time for a kid. But it’s really the celebrity side that you have to avoid at all costs…”

Malaise and alcoholism

For Radcliffe, the arrival of a child does not mean that he enters the adult world. He who grew up too quickly, propelled from an early age on film sets and in the whirlwind of celebrity, already displays, at 33, twenty-two years of career…

For ten years, he interpreted the adventures of the young Potter in a franchise that will bring him fame, fortune – the British press today estimates him at more than 80 million euros – and a lot of pressure.

He will later admit to having gone through a bad period by abusing alcohol in particular. “I felt watched when I went to a bar or a pub. And the fastest way to forget that pressure was to drink a lot,” he explained on the show. Off Camera in 2019.

“But when people looked at me because I was drunk, I drank more to ignore them even more…” He ended up getting out of it thanks to his entourage and after several attempts at withdrawal. “When I think of all the chaos I had in my life, I tell myself that I am much happier now…”

Contrary roles

A complicated transition period during which he tried to turn the page on Harry Potter, a role that had inevitably ended up sticking to his skin. He then broke his image by daring to play counter-intuitive roles, on stage and in the cinema, especially in the horror film The Lady in Black (2012), fantasy movies Horns (2013) et Doctor Frankenstein (2015), while playing gay poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings (2013), the film on the set of which he met the one who now shares his life.

A year ago, when the New York Times questioned him on this subject, in particular to find out if he was ready to participate in the adaptation to the cinema of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the actor had been very clear: “I come to a time in my life where I feel like I managed to get out of Potter without too much trouble. I’m really happy where I am now, and going back would be too big a change in my life… It’s not something that interests me at the moment. »
