One of the aspects that Ulma placed special emphasis on at its annual meeting was the “commitment to the cooperative model”. Throughout the conclave, the idea of ”maintaining and reinforcing the commitment to the cooperative model that has always been its hallmark” since the beginning of this company in the 1960s was insisted on. Ulma wanted to make all these aspects clear in the framework of his “new stage” after his departure from Mondragon Corporation, decided on December 16 by the majority of the cooperative members, as happened in the Orona elevator company, based in Galarreta (Hernani). Precisely, the business figures presented this year by both firms place them as the two main industrial companies in Gipuzkoa after CAF from Beasindarra.

Ulma reaffirmed to its members that “the cooperative model and the spirit of solidarity characteristic of the Group’s cooperatives are inherent to its essence and its activity”, and will be maintained in the future. In this sense, the Oñatiarra company assures that “it has been clear that its status as a cooperative entity has been essential to shape its corporate personality and a fundamental element to explain its ability to successfully face and overcome the stages of anxiety caused by the successive crises external and internal experiences experienced throughout its more than sixty years of history».

These principles are, Ulma points out, “important” to guide its growth. «We have always been, are and will be a cooperative. The commitment is absolute with a cooperative model like ours”, wanted to make clear the outgoing president, Lander Díaz de Gereñu. The manager, looking to the future, added that “this commitment implies strengthening collaboration with the different levels (universities, vocational training centers, technology and R&D centers…) that form the engine of the cooperative model”.

The company’s objective is also to continue its global growth “without losing its status as a cooperative, firmly rooted in Oñati”. Ulma is present in more than 80 countries and close to 75% of its sales come from international markets, which places it in world leadership positions in some of its various business branches.

And it is that Grupo Ulma is made up of nine cooperatives with activity in very diverse sectors: Ulma Agrícola (structures and systems for greenhouse crops); Ulma Architectural Solutions (construction sector); Ulma Conveyor Components (rollers, supports and garlands for bulk transport), Ulma Construction (engineering); Ulma Embedded Solution (consulting and engineering in the life cycle of electronic products); Ulma Forged Solutions (flanges and forgings), Ulma Handling Systems (logistics), Ulma Packaging Diseña (packaging); and Ulma Maintenance Services (goods handling).
