Attorney General Requests Special Jurisdiction to Expel Alleged Criminal

2024-08-09 03:42:08

The Attorney General’s Office has requested that ⁤the Special Jurisdiction for‍ Peace (JEP) expel Juan Carlos Rodríguez Agudelo, known by the alias ‘Zeus’. The main ‌reason for this request is his serious failure ⁢to comply with the obligations he assumed when he appeared ⁣before the JEP.

Juan Carlos Rodríguez ⁣Agudelo, a retired Army Major, ⁣has been⁤ convicted in ordinary courts for multiple crimes in 14 judicial proceedings. In⁣ 2018, the JEP granted him conditional and early release in his capacity as a witness in a ⁣macrocase related to “Murders and forced disappearances presented as combat casualties by State agents”, specifically in the Meta subcase.

According‌ to the Prosecutor Delegate for Intervention⁣ before the JEP, Jairo ‌Acosta Aristizábal, Rodríguez Agudelo has‍ not fulfilled ‍the commitments he acquired. He failed to appear before the⁤ court to report his change of address and abandoned his security arrangement without justification on April 10, 2024. He ‍was subsequently caught by the authorities.

The Attorney ⁤General’s⁣ Office also mentioned a request from May 2 to⁤ expand the facts‌ of the non-compliance incident. This extension includes alleged offers of money to ⁢the members of the police force who carried out his capture, which⁤ could constitute the crime of bribery.

Additionally,⁤ after his capture, Rodríguez Agudelo is ‌being prosecuted for crimes of manufacturing,⁣ trafficking, or carrying firearms ⁤for private use, aggravated by special circumstances. These ‌facts suggest a possible leadership of an organized criminal‌ group, which has resulted in ⁣his escape and evasion of justice.
