by time news

In 2020, as in 2019, this average age was 62.8 years.

The average retirement age, which had stagnated in 2020, rose again last year, increasing slightly to 62.9 years, the National Old Age Insurance Fund (Cnav) said on Thursday.

Even without reform, the retirement age is rising. It thus stood at 62.9 years on average for the approximately 650,000 new “direct right” pensioners (excluding reversions) from the general scheme, according to the latest figures published by the Cnav. In 2020, as in 2019, this average age was 62.8 years, with a slightly higher workforce.

The trend at work since 2007 therefore continues: in fourteen years, the average retirement age has increased by 2 years, with sudden accelerations under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, then a slow progression under François Hollande and Emmanuel Macron , interspersed with several stagnations (2010, 2013, 2016 and 2020).

“Long Careers”

Enough to feed the debate on a possible pension reform, relaunched by the president-candidate Emmanuel Macron, who wishes to push back the legal age of departure from 62 to 65 years old. A proposal which, however, plans to maintain an early departure for “long careers”from which more than 125,000 new retirees benefited in 2021.
