The qualifying stage of the first Senat Open Chess Cup was held in Karaganda. Today, May 11, more than 100 people from among deputies, media representatives, and public councils decided to compete for the opportunity to participate in the semifinals, ekaraganda.kz correspondent reports.

The first Senat Open competition took place in the Amanat party building. And the deputy akim of the Karaganda region, Erlan Kusayin, took part in the opening ceremony of the Cup stage.

Chess sport unites people of different categories and ages – from schoolchildren and students to political figures. Senat Open is a tournament where deputies of all levels will demonstrate by personal example the importance of developing the country’s intellectual potential and the importance of chess in promoting the cult of knowledge.

The first qualifying stage of the Cup took place in Karaganda, on May 11, in the “White Hall” of the Amanat party building. About one hundred representatives of district, city and regional maslikhats, the media, and members of regional public councils took part in the tournament.

“Today the first qualifying tournament is taking place in Karaganda. All regions of Karaganda and the regional maslikhat are participating. The competitions are held in rapid chess, which means that the control will be quite dynamic. Ten minutes per game plus five seconds per move. The entire tournament will last for one day,” explains the chief judge of the competition, Oleg Rinas.

Based on the results of the qualifying round, the 25 best players were determined who will receive the right to play for the Karaganda region in the semi-finals. But this is provided that there is at least one participant in each region.

The first place was taken by labor veteran Gennady Pak, the second place was taken by the representative of the Abay district maslikhat Sergey Mogila, and the third place went to Sergey Ignatiev from the Ardager-2012 foundation.

“There are a lot of good players here, but I can’t make any predictions. At the qualifying tournament, awards in the form of diplomas. And the main prizes: cups and so on will be in the finals,” adds Oleg Garrievich.

The semi-final will take place on June 21 in Karaganda with the participation of the winners of the tournaments in the Ulytau region and the city of Astana. And the final of the Senat Open will be held in August in the capital.

In order to raise the profile of chess, the Senat Open tournament will be held once every two years.
