Eva García Sáenz de Urturi yesterday became one of the main protagonists of Sant Jordi, the great festival that every year fills the streets of Barcelona with books, roses and writers. Authors from all corners willing to stamp her dedication. The writer from Vitoria signs one of the best-selling works of fiction in 2023. ‘El ángel de la ciudad’ (Planeta), which she presented in the capital of Alava just a few days ago, leads the Book Day sales lists at the category of works written in Spanish.

The Catalan booksellers union celebrates that this year’s Sant Jordi has been “the best in history” and the “massive participation” after publishing its first sales balance this Sunday. After Saénz de Urturi are ‘How I (didn’t) write our history’, by Elisabet Benavent (Suma); ‘The married portrait’, by Maggie O’Farrell (Asteroid Books), ‘The crystal cuckoo’, by Javier Castillo (Suma), and ‘Children of the fable’, by Fernando Aramburu (Tusquets).

The Álava author shares first place in the ranking with ‘Les nostres mares’, last Sant Jordi Prize, edited by Proa, work by Gemma Ruiz, who leads the sales of books written in Catalan. Both women have been the readers’ favorites this year, according to the Catalan Book Chamber and the Catalan Booksellers Guild.

In the non-fiction category, the best sellers are ‘Gran Enciclopèdia del Barça’, by La Sotana (Blackie Books), and ‘How to make good things happen to you’, by Marian Rojas (Espasa). In the works aimed especially at children and young people, there have been ‘Les excursions d’en Titó’, signed by various authors (published by Estrella Polar), and ‘Arta contra el Alien Máximo’, by Arta Game (Montena), the most requested works.
