Vladimir Urin: ballet “Nureyev” does not comply with the law on LGBT

The ballet Nureyev staged by director Kirill Serebrenikov was withdrawn from the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theater.

As explained by the director of the cultural institution Vladimir Urin, the cancellation of the production is connected with the law on LGBT propaganda. The performance does not correspond to “absolutely unequivocally discussed issues related to the promotion of non-traditional values.”

There are no messages on the theater’s website about the cancellation of the ballet yet.

The production is dedicated to the outstanding dancer Rudolf Nureyev, who left the Soviet Union in 1961. In 2017, the premiere of the ballet had to be postponed due to the objections of the then Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, who saw in the ballet propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations.
