The Allianz Arena, in Munich, Germany, will dress up in a brand new semi-final, where the Bavarian team will host the competition’s top champion, Real Madrid.
The last time both clubs met was in the semifinals of the 2017-18 season, the first game Real Madrid won 1-2 as a visitor and in the second they tied 2 to 2 with the aggregate score of 4 to 3, to advance to the next round.
Historically, the German team (6) and the Merengue team (14) have faced each other 7 times in the semifinals of said competition, with the curious fact of never having played a final between them. The records show a balance of 4-3 in favor of the locals.
Real Madrid agonizingly eliminated Manchester City on penalties 4-3 in the quarterfinals and in the round of 16 they fired RB Leipzig.
For its part, Bayern was first in group A. In the round of 16 they beat Lazio 3-1 on aggregate, and in the quarterfinals they eliminated Arsenal 2-3 on aggregate.
The Bavarian team will play its 21st semi-final between the Champions League and the European Cup, while Real Madrid is doing so for the 33rd time.
The tie will close on May 8 at the Santiago Bernabéu. The winner will face the Borussia Dortmund-PSG team that manages to qualify for the title on June 1 at Wembley, London’s football cathedral.
