The Chancellor’s very historic moment

Yes, that’s how it can work if you follow advice that the management guru caste uses to make a lot of money. When the railway board member Seiler suggested to his counterpart from the train drivers’ union GDL – that is, the militants – to bring in conflict advisors in the first round of collective bargaining, Weselsky exploded like a steam boiler whose pressure relief valve is broken: That was “an escalation level”. And he would certainly not negotiate in a “dark room” with Seiler, who had recommended a small circle. Clear case: the top train driver is on a collision course.

We ordinary travelers will have to pay bitterly for the railway’s clumsy opening train, probably especially around Christmas. We didn’t have a good feeling right away when it was said that talks with the union were supposed to start on November 9th. This date also stands for bright days in German history such as the proclamation of the Republic and the fall of the Wall, but above all for dark days such as the Hitler Putsch and the pogrom night, which is why November 9th could not become a national holiday.

With such a mixed outcome, you actually have to be happy that nothing of significance that should be in every history book has happened on the fateful day of the Germans for 34 years. So is it true that history came to its end then, as was claimed? Of course not, especially not in Germany.

As if Habeck were Churchill reincarnated

In our country, hardly a bypass is inaugurated without someone talking about a historical event. Even in Berlin, the historic capital of the Germans, the label “historic” is attached to everything that is not in threes: decisions, agreements, coalition formations, forks in the road, tasks, contracts, trips, party conferences. And of course also speeches, like the recent speech by Habeck, who actually spoke as if he were Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy reincarnated in one person.

Decisions on migration policy are also often declared historical milestones. Federal Interior Minister Faeser called the agreement between the EU states on the asylum procedure at the external borders “historic”, although an agency report that reported on it immediately afterwards said: “However, Germany was unable to get through with key demands.”

With such low requirements for the award of the “historic” seal, the Chancellor could of course speak without hesitation about a “very historic moment” after the recent federal-state meeting to limit migration, although after the lengthy negotiations with the Prime Minister he “did not “wanted to use too big words”.

Merz Scholz contradicted that

However, opposition leader Merz then expressly contradicted the Chancellor’s classification, which was undoubtedly a historic act. In any case, we cannot remember a politician ever insisting that something was not historical that had previously been declared historical, especially from the very top.

Scholz should have simply invited Merz along, then the latter would certainly not have been so petty in the evaluation. We would all like to be able to say at least once in our lives: Wait a moment, just wait, you’re so historic!

The author of these lines was also exposed to this temptation when he took the train to Berlin a few days ago – and everything went smoothly: no waiting for the train driver, no fighting for a seat, warm drinks in the on-board bistro, arrival on time! We almost gave the return trip the highest rating of “historic”. But then, due to a disruption, the ICE did not stop at the main station as planned, but in Frankfurt South, as so often. Afterwards, we decided not to mark this day red on the calendar in order to commemorate it next year.
